Directions
Equipment and Preparation
Gather all necessary equipment and ingredients. We recommend using a sous vide to keep the mixture warm, and these gummy molds.
Prepare molds on a towel-covered counter, tap to remove excess water, and dry in an oven at 300-350°F for 5-10 minutes.
Mixing Ingredients
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine gelatin, citric acid, and Jello. Mix thoroughly with a spatula. Set Aside.
Prepare PG and CBD Isolate Mixture:
In a small mason jar, mix the propylene glycol with the CBD isolate (Or cannabis extract of your choice). If necessary, warm the sealed mason jar in a double boiler until the mixture is clear and the isolate is completely dissolved. Set aside and do not combine until mixture is being heated.
Prepare Remaining Wet Ingredients: In separate large bowl, combine corn syrup, room temperature water, and Lorann Mold Inhibitor. Stir until mixed and set aside.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the corn syrup mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring continuously until well combined. Be sure not to mix in the PG and CBD Isolate mixture quite yet.
Heating Process
Double Boiler: Use a double boiler with water simmering in the bottom pot. Place the mixture in the top pot, ensuring it does not contact the water directly. Continuously stir until the mixture reaches 120°F.
Begin Heating the Mixture:
Transfer the combined mixture into a large glass bowl if using a microwave, or continue in the mixing bowl if using a double boiler. Heat using your chosen method: Double Boiler: Place the bowl over simmering water and heat until the mixture reaches 120°F. Microwave: Use short bursts of 10-15 seconds, stirring in between, until the mixture reaches 120°F.
Incorporate the PG/CBD Isolate Mixture:
Once the base mixture is at 120°F, add the warmed PG/CBD isolate mixture. Stir thoroughly for at least 3 minutes to ensure even distribution of cannabinoids.
Final Heating to Ensure Consistency:
Continue to maintain the mixture at 120°F, preparing it for bottling.
Transfer, Pour, Fill
Transfer to Ketchup Bottles:
Pour the heated gummy mixture into ketchup bottles prepared with funnels. Immediately after filling, place the bottles in a pot of warm water. You can use either a double boiler setup or a pot with warm tap water that you change regularly to maintain the temperature. This keeps the mixture warm and easy to handle during the molding process.
Fill Molds:
With the bottles warmed, carefully fill each mold. Ensure each gummy is filled consistently to ensure accurate dosage.
Drying and Curing
Allow the gummies to air dry in a controlled environment (45% humidity, temperatures below 80°F) until they are no longer tacky, typically about one week.
Continue curing for another week to stabilize the moisture content. After this additional week of curing, if desired, you can coat the gummies in sugar. Test sugaring a small batch first to ensure that they do not melt or become too tacky. This will provide a pleasant texture and help prevent the gummies from sticking together.
Recipe Note
Texture Adjustment:
If you prefer firmer gummies, you can increase the amount of gelatin by about 10-15%. For softer gummies, slightly reduce the gelatin or increase the liquid components proportionally. Always test small batches to find your preferred texture.
Shelf Life and Storage:
To extend the shelf life beyond 8 months, consider adding a small amount of a preservative like potassium sorbate at the same stage as the mold inhibitor. Always ensure gummies are stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to maintain their potency and prevent degradation.
If you put 10 grams of isolate in, the batch should come out to around 25mg CBD or CBG. If you opted to use 5 grams of THC extract, your gummies will be around 10mg THC.
